There’s been an alarming hike in kidnap cases lately. Both young and old have become victims of kidnap incidents.
Most recently, precisely on 5th September, was that of Senator Nelson Effiong, the immediate past senator representing Eket Senatorial District in Akwa-Ibom State.
Eye witness report gathered that he was at his lounge, a popular sit out along Oron Road Uyo around 9pm, when three armed men stormed the place and started shooting sporadically. This threw panic and chaos into the atmosphere,as patrons began to run for safety. About eight people sustained injuries as a result of this.
On the same day, Asma’u Tafoki, the younger sister to the Deputy speaker of Katsina House of Assembly, Dalhatu Tafoki was also kidnapped.
The Deputy speaker, who is respresenting Faskari Constituency of Faskari Local Government Area, confirmed the incident. At about 1am, his about-to-wed sister was abducted from the family house at Faskari.
According to the local vigilante group, they went into a duel with the armed men. This gave opportunity to the second kidnapped lady to escape.
As at the time of this report, the kidnappers were yet to contact the families for demands.
